IPL 2023 Format
IPL 2023 Format: The format of the IPL 2023 edition will be the same as last year but there will be changes in the venues.
Following are the details of IPL 2023 format:
The ten teams are divided into two groups of five.
A random draw was used to determine the groups and who played in the groups once and twice.
In the group stage, each team plays the other four teams in its group twice (one home and one away game), the four teams in the other group once, and the rest of the team twice for 14 games.
IPL Points Table System: 2 points will be awarded to the team that wins the match. The losing team will not get any points. In case of a draw or no result, both the teams will be awarded 1 point.
The group stage is followed by a four-game playoff stage following the page playoff system. Four matches will be played in the playoffs:
Qualifier 1: Between the first and second placed teams in the group stage.
Eliminator: Between the third and fourth placed teams in the group stage.
Qualifier 2: Between the loser of Qualifier 1 and the winner of the Eliminator.
Final: Between the winners of Qualifier 1 and 2.
IPL 2023 new rules
IPL 2023 New Rules: BCCI introduced Impact Player Rule in IPL 2023 season and brought a big change in IPL history. Apart from this, the tournament will follow the rules of the previous edition. Following are the details of the rules of IPL 2023:
IPL 2023 will have two DRS for each innings.
When caught out, the incoming batsman takes strike, whether the batsmen have crossed or not, unless it is the last ball of the over
If any team fails to find their playing XI due to COVID-19, BCCI will try to reschedule the games for later in IPL 2023.
If the rescheduling is not possible, the technical team of IPL will look into the matter.
In Playoffs/Finals: If the Super Over or subsequent Super Overs cannot be completed due to any reason, then the higher ranked team in the league will be declared the winner.
What is the Impact Player Rule
Impact player can be only one Indian player unless there are less than 4 overseas players in the playing XI.
Only an overseas player who is part of the 4 substitutes named in the team sheet can be used as an impact player. If a team introduces a foreign player as an impact player in a match, then under no circumstances the 5th foreign player can enter the field.
Teams are required to choose 4 substitutes with X1 at the time of the toss and only one of the 4 can be used as an impact player.
The captain will nominate the impact player
An impact player may be introduced before the start of the innings, or after the completion of an over, or after the fall of a wicket or after a batsman has retired at any time during the over.
A player who is replaced by an impact player (“Replaced Player”) may no longer participate in the remainder of the match and is also not permitted to return as a substitute fielder.
The BCCI has confirmed that an influential player cannot act as captain.
An impact player can come in place of a retired batsman who will be allowed to come later if needed.
Both teams are allowed to use one impact player per match. However, this is not mandatory. It is up to the teams whether they want to use an impact player or not.
If a player gets injured while fielding mid-overs, he may not participate in the match if the team fields an impact player to replace him.
In the event of an injury to an impact player during a match, a substitute fielder is permitted to field in place of the injured player only to the satisfaction of the umpires.
The substitute shall not bowl or act as captain.
Penalty time for the batting and fielding teams will apply to a player off the field for a substitute depending on the circumstances of the game.
